Prior to last year’s U.S. election, Michael Moore unveiled an “October surprise” aimed at taking down Donald Trump in the form of a new movie called Michael Moore in Trumpland. Unlike his previous documentaries, this was simply a recording of a one-man show that he had performed on stage in Wilmington, Ohio and it failed to make much of an impact, although he also fell ill and was unable to support it with a promotional tour. Now that Trump is the President of the United States, however, Moore has refused to give up the fight. This week he has revealed another secret Trump documentary in the works called Fahrenheit 11/9 and he will be reteaming with Bob and Harvey Weinstein to bring it to theatres. Here’s what they had to say about it:
“There is no greater part of what we can do right now than to have the power to bring Michael Moore to a mass audience. When we had the opportunity to work with him on Fahrenheit 9/11, we were so persistent that we ultimately had to part ways from Disney and we lost our beloved Miramax, named after our parents, because we believed so strongly in the message. The movie broke all records then, and we plan to do so again. This movie will have one of the most innovative distribution plans ever. Now more than ever, Michael’s appetite for the truth is crucial. We are ecstatic to be a part of this revolution.”
The clever title of the new film refers to November 9th, 2016, the day on which Donald Trump was officially declared President of the United States. Moore’s previous doc Fahrenheit 9/11 was a take down of then president George W. Bush and it made $222 million worldwide, remaining to this day the highest grossing documentary ever. Of course, it still couldn’t stop Bush from being re-elected in 2004. The release date for Fahrenheit 11/9 is still TBA. Will Michael Moore have more success this time around?
