Stephen King’s The Dark Tower Trailer

After several delays and some post-production problems, at long last the first official trailer for The Dark Tower has finally arrived. Directed by Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair), this is the first installment in Stephen King’s epic eight book series about a mysterious gunslinger (played by Idris Elba) who is tasked with protecting a dying world from The Man In Black (Matthew McConaughey). The new trailer certainly looks like an improvement on the one that leaked online last year, but overall it still seems like an odd mash-up of genres that may be a tough sell for mainstream audiences. The Dark Tower hits theatres on Aug. 4th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

    What were the post problems? Was it with this production? I know this has been stuck in development hell for years, but I hadn’t heard of any problems after they had already shot.

    I don’t know the specifics but they definitely underestimated how much time would be required for the FX work.

    No kidding. I think the rumored HBO mini series would have been a much better way to go with this source material.

    Man I never read the series in it’s entirety but for a few chapters of the first book. However based on what I did read, I always pictured the Gunslinger’s world being a truly horrible desolate dystopia…but this trailer looks rather…clean? I could be wrong since I never read the full series.

    Overall the trailer which I was looking forward too seems rather stale…I the story…bad guy wants to rule world…young kid works with mentor/savior to save his world and the kids world. I mean Love Elba and McConaughey but this looks like a waste of talent to me…very disappointed.

    I usually don’t mind adaptations playing it fast and loose, but fuck me does this look like a huge, fucking turd. They’ve turned a great fantasy series into some young adult bullshit?!
