Spookers Trailer: A Documentary About New Zealand’s World Famous Horror Theme Park

The full line-up for the 2017 Hot Docs Film Festival was announced a couple of weeks ago and among the list of this year’s world premieres is a film called Spookers. Playing in the Nightvision program, this is a documentary about the biggest “scare park” in the Southern Hemisphere which is set in New Zealand’s supposedly haunted Kingseat Psychiatric Hospital. On the surface, it seems to resemble Michael Paul Stephenson’s The American Scream, but it also digs deeper into the psychology of many of the people who work there, some of whom are using it as a way to deal with their own real-life fears. Spookers is directed by Florian Habicht (Pulp: A Film About Life, Death and Supermarkets) and it premieres on April 30th at Hot Docs followed by a release in New Zealand later this year.
