Highlander Reboot Gets John Wick Director

Man, these John Wick guys are everywhere. Just a couple of days after David Leitch was officially confirmed for Deadpool 2, Chad Stahelski, his directing partner on the first John Wick, has landed a pretty big studio gig of his own. Just like Leitch, Stahelski is a former stuntman turned director who was forced to tackle John Wick: Chapter 2 on his own after Leitch left to direct The Coldest City starring Charlize Theron. Lionsgate must be happy with his work on that project because now he is reportedly moving on to helm their long-gestating reboot of the Highlander franchise. Chad Stahelski had this to say about the announcement:
“I’ve been a huge fan of the original property since I saw it in high school… Such great themes of immortality, love, and identity are all wrapped up in such colorful mythology. I can’t think of a better property that gives the opportunity to create interesting characters, mythic themes and action set pieces.”
The Highlander reboot has been in development since 2008 and has already been through several other directors including Justin Lin, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (The Hunstman: Winter’s War). No actors are currently attached, although ironically it was rumoured a few years ago that the studio wanted Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds to headline it. Does this latest news make you more or less excited for a brand new Highlander movie?
