Jessica Chastain to Star in Painkiller Jane Movie

These days it seems like every A-list actor needs to have a comic book franchise as a part of their portfolio and it would appear that Jessica Chastain is no different. Although she is generally known for her dramatic work in movies like The Tree of Life, Interstellar, A Most Violent Year and Zero Dark Thirty (the latter of which resulted in her second Oscar nomination), she did take on one of her first action-oriented roles earlier this year in The Huntsman: Winter’s War. Now she has reportedly signed on to star in a comic book movie based on Painkiller Jane, a series created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada. Hit the jump for the full scoop.
According to Deadline, Jessica Chastain has signed on to star in and produce a Painkiller Jane movie for Lotus Entertainment and Solipsist Films. Jane is an undercover police officer turned vigilante who mysteriously gains superhuman healing abilities that make her nearly indestructible (although much like Wolverine, her injuries still cause her to feel pain). Lenny Beckerman (Lake of Fire) and Stephen L’Heureux (Sin City: A Dame To Kill For) will produce along with Chastain through her Freckle Films banner (yes, her production company is called Freckle Films).
The Soska Sisters (American Mary) were previously attached to direct this movie, but strangely there is no mention of them in the article. At the time, they were promising that it would most definitely be rated R. The character has been adapted for the screen twice already, once as a Sci-Fi Channel movie starring Emmanuelle Vaugier and then as a Sci-Fi Channel original series starring Kristanna Loken. The series was cancelled after just one season. Are you psyched to see Jessica Chastain kick ass as Painkiller Jane?
