Deadpool 2 Loses Tim Miller as Director

Looks like there is trouble brewing in the Fox Cinematic Universe this week after a major shake-up happened on Deadpool 2 over the weekend. We are hearing that director Tim Miller has left the project over creative differences, reportedly having butted heads with star Ryan Reynolds a few too many times. Although Reynolds was a producer on the first film as well, his clout is said to have “increased exponentially” on the sequel, giving him control over casting and other major elements of the movie. Still, after the success of the first film, what could they possibly have to disagree about? Hit the jump for more details.
According to Deadline, director Tim Miller has officially left Deadpool 2. He had not signed a formal deal yet, but he had been developing the script with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and seemed a lock to return. The parting is said to have been amicable, and now he is expected to immediately jump into another project with Fox: an adaptation of the Daniel Suarez cyberthriller Influx.
Since the initial announcement, however, The Wrap has revealed some of the potential issues that led to Miller’s departure. Supposedly, he wanted a more “stylized” sequel, while Reynolds was more focused on keeping it a raunchy comedy. Miller also wanted Kyle Chandler to play Cable in the sequel, while Reynolds disagreed, and the studio ultimately sided with Reynolds.
Clearly Miller and Reynolds both played a role in the success of the first film (along with screenwriters Reese and Wernick), but it was Miller’s directorial debut and sadly he does seem to be the most expendable one of the bunch. If anything, this could be a good thing for the sequel, depending on who they replace him with. That being said, this will no doubt sound a bit worrisome to fans of the original, who will be hoping for more of the same. What do you think, could Deadpool 2 still be great without Tim Miller at the helm?
