With just two months before it is due to hit theatres, 20th Century Fox and Ubisoft have released a brand new trailer for their upcoming movie based on the popular Assassin’s Creed video game series. The movie stars Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch, a career criminal whose family ancestry traces back to the Spanish Inquisition. With the help of Marion Cotillard and some killer VR tech, he is able to relive the memories of his ancestors where he takes part in a secret society of assassins… an “Assassin’s Creed” if you will. This new trailer swaps out Kanye West for another contemporary song but the result is essentially the same: it feels a bit too desperate to appeal to anyone who didn’t play the games. I guess I can understand why, but I don’t think this marketing approach is doing them any favours. That being said, the visuals could very well carry this film. Assassin’s Creed is directed by Justin Kurzel (Snowtown, Macbeth) and it hits theatres on Dec. 21st; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
