I think we should have more cold opens for Film Junk podcasts – Frank’s “It’s reference quality!” was too good to leave to the very end..

I prefer the Raid movies. Although Iko’s character is more “vulnerable” and takes some damage (which is a nice change), some of the melodramatic parts don’t quite work and are laughable. In fact I’m pretty sure the audience was laughing at parts that we were not intended to find funny. I didn’t think the “Gore” was too much compared to similar movies.

I’d say Jay will think it’s fine, Sean will like it a lot, and Frank will dislike it though not strongly.

How does it compare to The Raid movies? It sounds like it’s more melodramatic but also relishes the gore.

I hear you but the energy from the audience no matter how bad the movie can be a lot of fun. I try to still make it out to just one but I take less risks with my choices. This year it was Headshot which was exactly what I expected: Fun, campy action.

A double bill of Hell Or High Water and Hunt For The Wilderpeople would be cream, dream, supreme. Both are wonderful in different ways.

Ghostbusters had the ‘Answer The Call” subtitle in the final credits. Or at least it did in this territory.

Also, I found the island bits of Fire At Sea pretty staged feeling. Maybe they were real people doing their real roles, but it seemed quite set up. That kind of made the insertion of the actual refugee footage within the story feel exploitative.
