Passengers Trailer Starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt

Looks like we’ve got yet another intriguing sci-fi movie heading our way before the end of 2016. Passengers has been floating around for almost a decade now with the script by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) landing on the Black List back in 2007. At one point Keanu Reeves and Reese Witherspoon were attached to star, but now instead we have Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt playing two passengers on a 5000-person starship who come out of hibernation prematurely, 90 years from their destination. As you can probably guess, their early wake-up call doesn’t seem to be an accident. The movie looks to combine elements of Sunshine, Moon, and Interstellar and it is directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game, Headhunters). Passengers hits theatres on Dec. 21st; check out the first trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

This is basically OBLIVION in space. Seems like the trailer reveals every plot point though. Does it tickle your sci-fi nerve, Sean?

It feels as messy as you would expect a movie that’s a pastiche (both narratively and stylistically) of pretty much every sci-fi idea out there [plus The Shining?!]… may as well just have called this Sci-Fi Movie and had Friedberg and Seltzer direct.

O boy that looks so bad and contrived…and seriously the two people who wake up just happen to be two good looking white people trapped on a ship which happens to lead to romance…oh yeah happens all the time.

What would have been better was if it was a rapping granny that woke up and Chris Pratt has nothing in common with her.

The trailer reveals quite a bit but I hope it’s just a reveal that Chris Pratt’s character really wanted a date so bad with that girl, so he screwed around with their hibernation pods.
