Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly Reunite for Sherlock Holmes Spoof

stepbrothers

We may or may not have already reached a saturation point when it comes to recent Sherlock Holmes adaptations, but this week we are hearing that yet another take on the character is heading to the big screen. Before you are tempted to go ahead and dismiss this latest version, however, here is one all-important detail: it will be a comedic version that re-unites the two stars of Step Brothers, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. Something tells me that will be more than enough to justify its existence among the various current Holmes incarnations. Hit the jump for the full scoop.

According to Deadline, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly will star in an upcoming comedy called Holmes & Watson for Sony Pictures. Etan Cohen (Get Hard) will direct from a script that he wrote himself. The project was originally set up back in 2008 with Ferrell attached to play Watson opposite Sacha Baron Cohen’s Sherlock. This time around, Ferrell will play Holmes instead.

We’ve been hearing about the possibility of a Step Brothers sequel for years, and while it’s unclear if that will ever happen, it will be great to see Ferrell and Reilly on screen together again. Unlike Step Brothers, however, this movie will be aiming for a PG-13. Adam McKay does not appear to be involved, although the movie is being produced through Ferrell’s company Gary Sanchez Productions. The last major Sherlock Holmes parody on the big screen was probably 1998’s Without a Clue starring Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley. Are you looking forward to Holmes & Watson?

YEEEESSSS. This could really funny, can the often pompous Holmes played by Ferrell could be a blast. Hope he finds out that the poor victim was killed by a blunt excremt.

    Ferrell special anyone?
