    Not saying this to defend the movie, as I wasn’t much of a fan, but Sausage Party can both look like shit AND look amazing for 20 million. Peanuts, in comparison, supposedly cost 5 times as much, and without any major voice talent. When I first saw the trailer I just assumed that they were emulating Foodfight or Veggie Tales. I know that wasn’t the case, but it made it go down smooth.

    Of course, word on the street is that the studio managed to come in under that budget by mistreating their artists.

    Arrow have the best restoration experts and encoders in the world working for them. Their video quality is almost always first rate, their own scans are amazing and even their off the shelf masters are better than the competition’s release because their encoding is better. Overpriced Criterion haven’t got shit on Arrow (or Eureka or the BFI).

    I totally agree. I own about 14 Arrow blu’s and they have great transfers.

    I don’t own any of the low budget horror films that Jay’s into – maybe the original low budget grainy feel of them isn’t fantastic to start with.

    I own some Giallos and the quality is great.

    It seems like Rear Window is placed too early on the “What We Watched” section but so happy to hear Frank love it! Does this mean a Hitchcock pt 2 might be closer?

  • Cups from Pitch Perfect is probably the last big music song to support a film. The single was released after the movie, but it went to #6 on the Billboard charts.

    In Canada, Arrow releases are comparable in price to Criterion.

    Hey Sean,

    Was listening to episode #516 where you watched the film “12.01”, directed by Jack Sholder. All you could mention as far as his body of work was a Nightmare on elm st movie. Jack Sholder was also partly responsible for the scifi flick SUPERNOVA, the buddy action flick RENEGADES starring Kiefer Sutherland and Lou Diamond Phillips and the 80’s scifi classic… THE HIDDEN. Do you know of this film? The fact that this movie was on none of the film junks top 100 lists or letterbxd makes me believe none of you have even seen it. Roger Ebert said of THE HIDDEN.. “a cross between Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Terminator”.

    Also, I have a question maybe for the show. You previously had an episode where you all mentioned female directors that you liked. What about female film composers that you guys like?

    The Hidden is a very underrated film, shame to see lesser films rip it off in later years.

    Thanks for the response, guys. I didn’t think of youtube goth dance, wish I had.

    We ended up going with a Bud Abbott & Lou Costello movie “Time of Their Lives” mainly because we both coincidentally grew up watching those movies.

    I think we wanted to go with something old-school classic, so that was a sure bet to please both of us. But we also thought something action-packed would be good, hence Guardians. We are set in a more woodsy backyard, with a pond and tons of bug and frog noises. No way am I putting on a horror movie in that setting.

    It’s an awesome setup though; quality was spectacular even for a 1946 film. I highly recommend it to anyone who has a big enough backyard. It’s like our own little drive-in.

    Arrow used to have a poor reputation in the UK a few years ago, especially with some of their horror releases, but they’ve upped their game considerably in the last couple of years. Their current output is generally excellent in terms of both transfer quality and bonus material. Sounds like the Female Prisoner Scorpion set may be a bit of an anomaly though.
