    No Bourne premium?! Man…

  • Larry Morgan

I think the point that was trying to be made re: The Rocketeer was this: there’s nothing wrong with casting a young black girl in a role-switcheroo kind of thing, just why does the studio have to politicize / make such a point of doing it? Why can’t the movie just be made, with a young black female lead, and that be that? I don’t think doing these progressive casting choices bothers anyone, it’s that the studio goes out of their way to make it seem like a big deal that bothers people. “Hey! Look at us! Look what we’re doing! We’re progressive!” Just do it and be quiet.

  • Sam

Will probably never happen, but still crossing my fingers for a Hammer Horror premium

  • devolutionary

It sounds like Greengrass should stick to directing (& Rouse to editing) and leave the writing to the pros. I’m curious why Tony Gilroy wasn’t brought back? Too much ill will from directing The Bourne Legacy?

  • flocka_kurosawa

I don’t think a general press release about the movie is “politicizing” it. When a reboot is announced (or any film for that matter) the default notion is that a white male is going to be the leading character unless the character doesn’t have any race/gender specific traits. When they announced that Ghostbusters was going to get a reboot, you can’t tell me that ppl would be a little perplexed as to why they would cast all women if they didn’t say they were going to do that beforehand. Secondly, it’s also about getting a subsection of moviegoers interested in a movie they would probably wouldn’t be interested in because the assumption is that a white male would’ve been cast. Until the white male isn’t considered the default lead in a movie I’m fine with studios specifying when the main character isn’t going to a white male. I doubt that if they didn’t specify, you wouldn’t have envisioned a black woman playing the part. No disrespect to OP or Frank.

  • Sam

Wow, definitely did not see Sing Street being a 5/5 from Frank type of movie. I enjoyed it as well, just didn’t see that coming from Frank.

  • Reed Farrington

What movies would you like to see reviewed in a Hammer Horror Premium?

  • Sam

There’s a lot of routes that could be taken I guess, like doing the Dracula Films, or the Frankenstein films, but I think getting a main touchstone from each and some other bigger ones would be a good way to do it.

    Maybe something like this line-up:
    The Curse of Frankenstein
    Horror of Dracula
    The Hound of the Baskervilles
    The Mummy
    Brides of Dracula
    Quatermass and the Pit
    The Devil Rides Out

Plenty of others I enjoy like Scream of Fear, Cash on Demand, Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter, Dracula: Prince of Darkness, etc… but I think the ones above would be a solid intro to Hammer in general, since I don’t believe any of the guys have explored too deeply at all into Hammer yet.

  • devolutionary

I’m certain Sam has mentioned before but if it was me, it would have to be at least 1 of each classic subject [Horror of Dracula/The Devil Rides Out/The Mummy/Curse of Frankenstein/(underappreciated) Curse of the Werewolf, & definitely Quatermass Experiment].
For brevity, it might be easier/cheaper to just pick up the Hammer Horror Classics Vol 1 Blu-ray instead. http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Hammer-Horror-Classics-Volume-One-Blu-ray/133772/

SUICIDE SQUAD is getting slaughtered critically. I wonder how this will affect Frank’s and Jay’s narratives.

  • ProjectGenesis

Would love to hear you guys discuss NERVE in the next few weeks … I was pleasantly surprised. Perfect second feature of a drive-in night.

  • Luke

    Frank is “fat”??
I thought Jay was the one constantly struggling with the chunk..?
    (e.g. his LOSE IT-agenda, exercise bike-fiasco, plus12lbs-twitter-shocker etc)
BTW, did Sean ever fat-shame these guys?

  • devolutionary

Can we get “gash crab” added to the FJ Glossary?

  • carol

Everyone thinks Greengrass is the key to this franchise, but it is definetly Gilroy. The weakest of the series is the one Gilroy didn’t write. And I agree, rewatched Legacy and it is better than this one.

  • “I don’t think it’s two hours worth of material.” – Frank Knezic

You’ve just described 90% of all documentaries.

  • Samb

Frank’s reaction to Dax saying he watched a doc about Beckham visiting the rainforest is, pardon the internet jargon, everything.

  • Tommy

Rocketeer girl sounds good to me.

  • Jameson

I feel like the Terence Fisher-directed Hammer films were the best ones. So I’d be happy with a premium including:
    The Curse of Frankenstein
    Horror of Dracula
    The Hound of the Baskervilles
    The Mummy
    Frankenstein Created Woman
    The Devil Rides Out

There were other genre entries that were interesting, but I feel these ones are a perfect summation of what Hammer was back then.

  • Lori Cerny

Would Enemy (2013) be considered a split-personality film?

Sybil (1976) was very good, and depending on which psychiatrist you believe, was based on a true story.

  • No one important

Be sure to check out TOP OF THE WORLD, directed by Sydney J Furie and starring Peter Weller, Dennis Hopper and Tia Carrere. It has a car chase through a Vegas Casino far more exciting then the one in Jason Bourne.

Concerning Film Junks obsession with Star ratings have any of you ever seen the Australian TV show… REVIEW with Myles Barlow?

  • ReelJunkie

I almost snorted my drink all over the laptop during the “animating with a numb hand” bit. Thanks Jay.

  • JC

Reviews (in the UK) are very mixed, Empire gave it 4/5 for example , seems a real marmite movie.

  • Tim

Jay has been rock-hard on propagating his presumably superior jerk off-method for a long time now, but I can´t wrap my head around the feasibility of this original masturbation à la Cheel. If your hand is numb, how can you even grab let alone stroke?? Jay has to deliver more practical instructions instead of leaving us all blue-balled.

  • Stinker

No Bourne Premium? So what….what about a Dirty Harry one?

  • Sean

It’s always on the list, we just need an excuse. Here’s the new line-up:

    Aug: Tim Burton
    Sept: Rob Zombie
    Oct: Texas Chainsaw

  • Chris

The 45th anniversary of the first Dirty Harry is December 23, 2016. ;)

  • iammattz

marmite movie? Care to clue us North Americans in on that one?

  • Max

I don’t think Jay pioneered the “stranger” technique.

  • Max

I’m not 100% sure, but I believe Marmite is some type of spread you can buy in Europe and Australia for toast, bread, etc. Some find it revolting and some find it delicious. I guess some love Suicide Squad and some hate it.

  • milan

rob zombie is interesting choice, as i recall you guys usually hate his movies…

  • schizopolis

Didn’t the Movie Review Show talk about 80’s sex comedies back in the day? Maybe Sean can compile those into a premium. During my voice-cracking pubescent years, my Revenge of the Nerds and Porky’s VHS recordings almost wore out.

  • Tim

    Jay might disagree on that.
You are talking about THE MASTER here.

  • Sam

Any decision yet on a Tim Burton lineup? I’m sure it’s a while away, just curious.

  • B.J.

whatever happened to the Alien Abduction premium?

  • Billy MG

Guys, definitely bring Dax back for suicide squad!

  • Jay has watched a decent amount of Hammer films.

  • I don’t know, I think its a movie almost anyone will like, and a huge amount will love. It also is great on re-watch.

  • Sean

Was this actually a real thing we mentioned at some point? Other than Fire in the Sky, I’m not sure what else it would include.

  • Marc

    Yes please!

  • Animating with the numb hand: “The Strangimator/Strangimation”?

  • Would you guys consider a Tobe Hooper premium instead of Texas Chainsaw? That way you could cover the 2 Texas Chainsaws he did + Poltergeist + Lifeforce + a wild card of one of his lower rated works (Invaders From Mars, The Funhouse, Eaten Alive)

  • It’d be pretty glorious to get a premium of all his work pre-2000 minus the Batman’s, which have their own premium.

    Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure
    Beetlejuice
    Edward Scissorhands
    Ed Wood
    Mars Attacks!
    Sleepy Hollow

  • JC

Spot on Max. It’s vile by the way

  • JC

Communion / Signs / Skyline would go welll.

  • Stinker

Great idea, Poltergeist and Lifeforce are better than the Chainsaw reboot trash.

  • Sean

It’s worth considering although Jay seems quite eager to watch the Texas Chainsaw movie with Daddario in it. Plus Poltergeist will probably be its own premium eventually.

  • Sam

Yeah, that’s what I was think as well. Maybe even toss in Big Fish and exclude from the Film Junk era and forward (2005-present).

  • Sam

Prescribing Frank Double Bill of Fire in the Sky and Communion.

  • Sam

While the Hooper idea sounds great, a TCM premium would be welcome. Would finally give me a reason to see Leatherface: TCM 3, and few of the newer ones, though I remember hating TCM: The Beginning or whatever it was called.

  • Sam

I agree that it’s a very likable movie, but that usually doesn’t mean much for Frankie.

I’m glad he liked it, just pictured some of the references bugging him more, and similar to his complaint from Friday the 13th Part IV, just thought he would think the boys were a little too good. Still it’s definitely a fun movie and cool to see Frank like it.
