Ths week’s biggest mainstream DVD and Blu-ray releases aren’t particularly exciting, but the good news is that there are a handful of smaller films also hitting stores that might be worth exploring. The highest profile titles are The Boss starring Melissa McCarthy, Barbershop: The Next Cut starring Ice Cube and Criminal starring Kevin Costner, but looking beyond that we have the first-person action thriller Hardcore Henry, John Carney’s latest musical Sing Street, and Karyn Kusama’s intense indie thriller The Invitation. The well-received documentaries Harmontown and The Russian Woodpecker also arrive on DVD this week and on Blu-ray we’ve got the Criterion re-release of Terrence Malick’s The New World, Michael Winner’s Death Wish II and Deadline – U.S.A. starring Humphrey Bogart.
