Adam Wingard’s The Woods is a Top Secret Blair Witch Sequel

blairwitch

Earlier this year we saw a teaser trailer for a new horror movie from director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett (You’re Next, The Guest) called The Woods. At the time, not much was known about it other than the fact that it revolved around some college kids on a camping trip, but last night the movie screened at Comic-Con where the truth was revealed: this is actually a top secret sequel to The Blair Witch Project! The movie is called simply Blair Witch and the plot revolves around the brother of Heather Donahue setting out in search of his sister, who disappeared back in 1999. There has been talk about a Blair Witch sequel or reboot for years now, but I think they’ve chosen the perfect duo to revisit the granddaddy of all found footage horror movies. Blair Witch hits theatres on Sept. 16th; check out a new trailer after the jump and see what you think.

So fucking excited for this. The reviews have all been glowing with nothing but praise!

Bored just looking at the trailer. It feels so acted. The great thing about the first BWP was that it did not. Pure mockumentary and the birth of found footage. Same feel to this one as any other mainstream horror these days.

Another beaut of the original was that it didn’t show ANYTHING. It was all in the mind of the viewer. And every time I revisit it, I keep thinking that I’ll see something there, in the utter darkness of the woods. What a great film it is. This one, however, probably is not.

I can only hope that this leads to a September Film Junk Found Footage Premium. Frank will love it!

    fuck YES!!!!!!!!
I didn’t like the first Blair Witch, but I love the directors and this looks like there is more payoff than the first one. Went from not caring at all, to needing to see it after watching that.

    Hahaha. That needs to happen.
