Saw: Legacy Gets a Pair of Directors

For the past few years we’ve been hearing unconfirmed reports about a new Saw movie in development. The last installment was Saw 3D, released back in 2010, and at the time Lionsgate claimed it would indeed be The Final Chapter. However, we all know that most successful horror franchises never really die, and considering how much time has passed it seems safe to say that the world is once again ready for more Jigsaw. Recently, some pretty solid evidence of this upcoming sequel / reboot has surfaced indicating that it is scheduled to start production in September. What’s more, it looks as though a well-known genre directing duo will be taking the reins on this project: Australian filmmakers Michael and Peter Spierig. Hit the jump for more details.

According to Bloody Disgusting, someone on Reddit recently spotted the Saw: Legacy project listed on a production list from the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC), an organization that provides funding for movies shooting in Ontario, Canada. The project is listed as simply Legacy on the sheet, but everything seems to line up based on the involvement of producers Peter Block, Mark Burg, Oren Koules and Dan Heffner. The document also confirms that The Spierig Brothers will be directing.

The Spierig Brothers most recently directed the time travel flick Predestination but prior to that they did Daybreakers and Undead. They were also recently working on a project called Winchester Mystery House for Hammer Films, but it seems like that may be on hold for now. Either way, I will admit that I’m curious to see what these guys can do with the series and I am hoping they can reinvent it in a clever way. The script was supposedly being written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (Sorority Row, Piranha 3D). Are you excited about the possibility of a brand new Saw movie?

I’ve been dying for a Saw premium. These movies are such hot garbage, but I would love to hear the Film Junk smear.
