It’s here baby. Can’t wait to hear what narrative Frank goes for.

  • Blake in Boston

Yes, Frank: Stranger Things is an homage to all those original things you hold so dear from young Frankie’s childhood, but it grows into something more unique/interesting as you watch. Give it more than 15 minutes at 2AM, bud. Kk good talk.

  • Frankie Knuckles

I will be giving it more time, gotta build that narrative.

  • Lori Cerny

Carnival of Souls is in the public domain, so Sam can watch it for free anyway. He should return for a free membership or gift card for his honesty.

I’m sure the employee who made this mistake would greatly appreciate it as their job could be on the line.

  • Blake in Boston

    #ForceFeed

  • Sam

Definitely plan to call/go back after work. Exactly what the guys were saying, it would suck to avoid going to the most convenient B&N especially when I have the urge to go and pick up A Touch of Zen today, and have been on a Sam Fuller kick, so maybe upgrading my Naked Kiss & Shock Corridor might be in order as well.

  • Tommy

Chris Hemsworth totally killed in my theater.

  • Mrespony

Stranger Things made my weekend. Yes it’s too on the nose at times, and I’d say that it goes beyond pandering, the creators are grossly declaring their 1980’s blockbuster aficionado bona fides throughout the entire 8 hours. The pop music references made me wince the most because it’s doubtful kids in rural 1983 Indiana were big into Joy Division or the Smiths (but apparently the creators are and they need to be sure you know). Having said that, I loved it. It’s tailor made for binge-watching and took me right back to old school Stephen King mini-series.

  • Sam

Hellzapoppin’ is a solid self-aware movie, one of the earlier ones I could think of too.

  • ReelJunkie

Stranger Things started off great but tapers off after 3-4 episodes. Lots of bad acting, stupid character decisions and the main mystery was just not “strange” enough for me.

  • Indianamcclain

The question needs to be asked; is Paul Feig a jobber?

  • Kelly Adams

Watched the original Ghostbusters for the first time in at least twenty years tonight and your takes on the new one are spot on. The original has some good jokes and lines but it’s the characterizations that sell it, not punch lines. You could have the same cast/characters in an office comedy or other setting that had nothing to do with the supernatural and could probably still come up with a good movie.

  • j-diggle

I won’t name names, but I can confirm that my problem is more with the bully’s success than anything else.

  • Frank, maybe Ingress is available in Canada? Pretty much the exact same thing as Pokémon Go and it’s by the same company. It’s also been out now for several years so it’s fairly stable.

  • Sean

Pokemon Go is out in Canada now as of Monday I believe. I am curious to try Ingress as well though.

  • Sean

Well he does have Freaks and Geeks under his belt, which is amazing. But that was another collaboration with Judd Apatow.

  • Larry Morgan

Winona Ryder needs to take it down a notch tbh

  • Frankie Knuckles

I downloaded Pokemon Go on Monday, was not hooked. However, today at lunch I caught twenty pokemon and evolved two., feeling good.

  • callmesteam

Biggest problem I had with GB16 was the villain. What was his motivation? He seemed like an afterthought. You guys nailed a lot of the thoughts I had (poor effects, DOA jokes, oddball acting – maybe due to improv?), but overall I was ok when the Ghostbusters were on screen. Ghosts all sucked. Fart jokes got MASSIVE laughs from the two 12-year-old girls seated in front of me.

  • Is that you God? Its me, Terry
  • adam

new Pokemon Go: Fall of the Amiibos narrative in the works!

  • Its nice to see Frank is all about the CoPo when he’s getting positive feedback from it.

  • Freaks and Geeks is Feig’s. He was the creator and the show runner.

  • Sean

That’s true although Apatow still did a fair bit of writing and directing on it.

  • Daniel Lindquist

Holy shit! Gimli! Jay, when is this? This is gonna be HUGE.

  • No one important

I’m trying to find the episode where you guys review the POINT BREAK reboot. It was absolute shite. All reboots have been awful, all future reboots will be awful, and Hollywood will continue to make em if the audience continues to go and see them. If you really need to see these get them from the library.

Sean, I was pleased to hear you mention the director Sydney J Furie in an old podcast. If you’re desperate to own THE TAKING OF BEVERLY HILLS on bluray you can get it in the UK amazon store. It’s a German release called BOOMER : ÜBERFALL AUF HOLLYWOOD. Two other films of his I really enjoyed are HOLLOW POINT and TOP OF THE WORLD.

Oh and that bluray is region B. Speaking of regions I’d like to ask a question for the show…

Dear Film Junk. Love the show but I think you give DVDs unfair criticism. You may not be aware, living in NTSC land but PAL DVDs are a little bit different and have pros that far outweigh the cons. Sure, the picture quality might not be the greatest, but where PAL DVD truly shines is in the frame rate conversion. PAL TVS run at 25 frames per second and when converting 24 fps films they are sped up so that the first frame of the second second happens a frame before the actual second second starts. This continues to buffer so that every 25 seconds of real time takes only 24 seconds in PAL. That ninety minute film is now only 86.4 minutes long. You guys constantly complain about movie running times so how awesome is this?

  • Marc Inman

Not specific to this ep but can anyone remember what ep it was when Jay did the Macdonald, Macgregor, Machinery joke on Reed? I cant find it and its hilarious!!

  • Matt the Kiwi

Frank, your movie-list-making rules and rationale are solid…stick to your guns. Although I do believe it is for posterity and not prosperity, as you claim at 58.50.

  • Kevin Cardoza

Surprised how much you guys disliked Ghostbusters. While I didn’t like it as much as my girlfriend, I thought it was pretty much the funniest movie I’ve seen in at least a year, and I’m someone who couldn’t be bothered to finish watching Bridesmaids or Spy. I guess comedy is pretty subjective, though.
