La La Land Trailer: A New Musical from the Director of Whiplash

Following the success of Whiplash a couple of years ago, writer/director Damien Chazelle has been in high demand in Hollywood. Since then we have seen a few more of his scripts end up on the big screen (including 10 Cloverfield Lane) and he has set up a handful of other projects, but his next project behind the camera will be a romantic musical based on a script he wrote prior to Whiplash. La La Land was originally supposed to reunite Chazelle with Miles Teller, but instead it will star Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, who have played love interests in a couple of films previously. Some may question whether they have the vocal capabilities to pull this off, but Gosling fronts the band Dead Man’s Bones and Emma Stone recently had a stint doing Cabaret on Broadway. Either way, this could very well be one of the most anticipated movies of the fall season. La La Land hits select theatres on Dec. 2nd and goes wide on Dec. 16th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Uh oh. Throwback musicals are usually great but hardly ever work out at the B.O. Pennies From Heaven, NY NY, One From The Heart, etc.

Title card sold it for me.

Not the biggest musical fan but lately Hamilton has turned me around on the idea. Plus I’m excited to see this for the director. On top of that this trailer itself is beautifully made.

Interesting and yeah Gosling voice not to cool but still love him as an actor.

Trailer kinda has that Nicolas Winding Refn vibe going on here. Looks like he could have directed this.

More digital photography that looks like complete shit.

If you are going to homage the musicals of Hollywood’s Golden Era than shoot it on film you fool.
