New to Theatres This Weekend: The Legend of Tarzan, The BFG, The Purge: Election Year

Happy Canada Day folks! We’ve got three new movies in wide release this weekend, although once again none of them are expected to give Finding Dory much trouble. The Purge: Election Year seems to be the biggest threat, likely following The Conjuring 2 as one of the few truly successful sequels to be released this summer. Also hitting theatres is The Legend of Tarzan, a big budget reboot of a classic hero although Alexander Skarsgard is a questionable box office draw. Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG is the other major release and seems to be on track to disappoint despite mostly positive reviews. In select theatres, we also have the John Le Carre adaptation Our Kind of Traitor starring Ewan McGregor and the documentaries Life, Animated and Roseanne for President.
