There isn’t a whole lot to get excited about this week in terms of DVD and Blu-ray releases, but at least there are a couple of Criterion releases that may be of interest. Kung Fu Panda 3 is the biggest new mainstream title, and beyond that we’ve got the middling Tina Fey war dramedy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and the well-received but seemingly unremarkable drone thriller Eye in the Sky. On the small screen, we’ve got the first season of Kurt Sutter’s short-lived The Bastard Executioner (on DVD only) and a handful of docs including an ode to the bit players of Star Wars called Elstree 1976. Finally, Criterion is re-issuing Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove and bringing Olivier Assayas’ Clouds of Sils Maria to Blu-ray, while Arrow Video is preserving the early George Clooney cult classic Return of the Killer Tomatoes for future generations to come.
