Monday Morning Box Office Report: Finding Dory Breaks Animated Opening Record

As expected, Finding Dory made a pretty big splash over the weekend as it bested Shrek the Third to break the opening weekend record for animated features. The Finding Nemo sequel earned an estimated $136.1 million, which is also obviously the best debut for ever a Pixar movie (Toy Story 3 made $110 million back in 2010). In second place, Central Intelligence earned a solid $34 million, which is about on par with Kevin Hart’s last two movies, Get Hard and Ride Along 2. Elsewhere The Conjuring 2 fell to third place with $15.6 million, while Now You See Me 2 and Warcraft rounded out the top 5. Warcraft dropped a staggering 73%, which is one of the biggest second weekend drops ever. It should be interesting to see what happens next weekend when Fox unleashes Independence Day: Resurgence.
