Here’s another festival favourite that’s been gathering some steam after premiering at Tribeca earlier this year where it was nominated for Best Narrative Feature and won the Best Cinematography award. Kicks is a coming of age story about a 15-year-old kid growing up in inner city Oakland who doesn’t quite fit in. When his brand new Air Jordan sneakers get stolen by a local hood, he recruits his two best friends to help get them back. Starring newcomers Jahking Guillory and Christopher Jordan Wallace (the son of Notorious B.I.G.), and accompanied by a vintage hip hop soundtrack, the movie is already being called this year’s Dope for obvious reasons. Kicks hits select theatres on Sept. 9th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
