Well I’m sure Disney and Lucasfilm were hoping to make this announcement on May the 4th, but it would appear that they are still in the process of dotting their ‘i’s and crossing some ‘t’s. Nevertheless, various sources are now reporting that Hail, Caesar! star Alden Ehrenreich has landed the lead role in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s upcoming young Han Solo movie. He was among the three finalists rumoured for the role back in March along with Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction) and Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) and last month was said to be the frontrunner. Hit the jump for more details.

According to Deadline, Alden Ehrenreich is in final negotiations to play young Han Solo in the as-of-yet untitled Star Wars spin-off film. No official announcement has been made thus far, but sources say that it is essentially a done deal.

Ehrenreich is best known for playing fictional western star Hobie Doyle in The Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar! but he also played one of the lead roles in Beautiful Creatures and appeared in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine and Park Chan-wook’s Stoker. We still don’t know much about the story but earlier this week Chris Miller tweet out a photo of Han Solo’s iconic blaster:

Do you think they made the right choice to play young Han Solo?

Not a bad choice and I heard he was quite in “Hail, Caesar!” so he must be a decent actor…but not to nitpick or maybe to nickpick he tends to be on the short side…he is listed as 5’9″ so that probably means 5’8″. I know it’s nitpick but Solo’s physicality is so much apart of the character.
