Emilia Clarke Won’t Return for Terminator Sequels

Terminator: Genisys was arguably one of the biggest flops of 2015, earning just $89 million domestically on a $155 million budget. Fortunately for those involved, however, the movie ended up making a lot of its money back overseas, especially in China where it made $113 million. Last we heard, the folks at Skydance Productions were still aiming to continue the franchise, although they did say that they would be “re-adjusting” their plans. Now this week Terminator: Genisys star Emilia Clarke has spoken up about her future involvement in the series, stating simply that there will be no future involvement. Here’s what she had to say about returning to play Sarah Connor:
“No. Can I say that? It’s okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up.”
She didn’t provide any additional information, but it certainly sounds like they will either be recasting the role or making the next movie without Sarah Connor in it at all. Ultimately, Arnold Schwarzenegger seems to be the only casting necessity for a Terminator sequel, but even Terminator Salvation found a way around that. Of course, it’s also possible that they have decided not to make another sequel, but let’s be honest… that doesn’t seem very likely. Are you disappointed that Emilia Clarke will not be reprising her role as Sarah Connor? What would you like to see in the next Terminator movie?
