The Magnificent Seven Trailer Starring Denzel Washington

Coming on the heels of a recent wave of westerns that includes The Hateful Eight, Bone Tomahawk, Slow West, The Keeping Room and The Revenant, this year we’ve got a remake of one of the all-time genre classics to look forward to. Director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) is once again reteaming with Denzel Washington for a new version of John Sturges’ The Magnificent Seven, which itself was a retelling of Seven Samurai. While I’m sure many will question the idea of a new take on this story full of modern action movie fluorishes, at the very least it features a fun cast that includes Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Haley Bennett, Byung-Hun Lee, Peter Saarsgard, Vinnie Jones, Cam Gigandet, Matt Bomer and Luke Grimes. The screenplay was also co-written by Nic Pizzolatto (True Detective), which may or may not be a selling point. The Magnificent Seven hits theatres on Sept. 23rd; check out the first trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

Seems like this is the final James Horner score, which could be really interesting.

  • LordAwesome

It won’t be a patch on Elmer Bernstein’s original, that’s for damn sure.

Boy that is a horrible trailer…I mean talk about trying to hard to be relevant LOL.

Based on this trailer it looks horrible and to be honest asking this movie to measure up to the Brynner version or Surosawa’s Seven Samurai is asking alot and so far the movie looks like it’s falling way short.

  • I seriously think they just feed a cut of the movie into an algorithm and it spits out a trailer.

I’d be curious to hear Greg’s opinion of this film since I remember him being a big fan of the original. Maybe he could be a guest when/if you guys review this on the show?

  • 1138sw

I second that. Would love to hear what Greg has to say about this movie.

  • Sean

It’s always a possibility if he’s up for it, although that might be the time of year that he usually takes his annual Disney vacation.

    This looks generic.
    Good cast though..
