How to Build a Time Machine Gets a New Trailer and Poster

With Jay’s new documentary How to Build a Time Machine premiering at Hot Docs in just a few weeks, a brand new trailer for the film has finally arrived online along with the official poster. As some of you may know, the movie has changed quite a bit over the past few years since it was originally going to explore the story of John Titor. Instead, it ended up focusing on two men engaged in the process of building real time machines from two different perspectives: theoretical physicist Ron Mallett and animator Rob Niosi, who is building a replica of the prop from the 1960 film The Time Machine. We’re excited for you guys to see the finished film and if you’d like to buy tickets to the Hot Docs screenings you can do so here. In the meantime, check out the poster and new trailer after the jump and see what you think.

  • Bas

    Looks good, I’m intrigued!

Oh yes, truly a ‘Beauty Day’ with a new trailer for How to Build a Time Machine. Can’t wait for this! Looking forward to find out when I can see it as I am unable to attend Hot Docs.

Classy poster. Congratulations on the movie!

  • LordAwesome

Looks digital. Should have been shot on film.

Holy shit Jay! Great trailer, can’t wait to see this! Any chance it might turn up at Fantasia this year?

  • Flo Lieb

Poster doesn’t blow me away. Why didn’t get Dax a shot at drawing one?

  • devolutionary

Clean minimalist poster but I gotta say, was digging the Ken Taylor one more. Looking forward to the film.

Clean minimalist poster, but I still gotta say the original DocIgnite exclusive was tastier. Looking forward to the film.

    Cool poster!

Is the poster typeface (Avant Garde Gothic?) a nod to BTTF ? And if so, did Frank consult on the font usage? Looks great!

  • Jasper

Congratulations, Jay! I admire your dedication to pull this through until the end and the self discipline to say it’s finished. Looking forward to the movie!

Cheel-san, you’ve got a beauty touch for pairing music and visuals. Oddly enough this is the second time I had that exact thought today, as I was listening to Crystal Cat and Thank You For Sending Me An Angel while putting music on my new phone before I even saw this trailer posted.

Bring this to Winnipeg and I’ll buy you a poutine. Deal? Deal.

  • Grinding and sparks: A Cheel Motif? This looks great and I hope you bring it to Chicago at some point. Seems like a perfect movie for the Music Box.

Loving poster. Really like the trailer. Recently watched Beauty Day for the first time and though it was a beauty. What saddens me is the realisation that i probably won’t be able to see HTBTM for like 2 years from now. Just as it was with Beauty Day. But i’ll check it out eventually.

Looks great. Can’t wait to see it.

The trailer is now perfect. Great work! The poster, however, looks a bit empty to me. Also, the upward transition from blackboard to night sky to time machine to white background does not make much sense. And the crystal ball gets lost.

Wow Jay, this looks great so far! Right up my alley. :)
    P.s. Sweeeeeet poster!
