James Cameron is Now Making Four Avatar Sequels

You’ve gotta hand it to James Cameron. The guy loves to talk a big game, but at the end of the day he always ends up delivering on his promises and silencing all of his critics. It’s been 6 years since Avatar became the biggest movie of all time and since then we’ve been hearing about his ambitious plans for the sequels. Back in 2013, he announced that he was actually planning three separate sequels but the release dates just kept getting pushed back. Earlier this year, we learned that Avatar 2 would be experiencing yet another delay and now James Cameron has apparently decided to throw a fourth Avatar sequel onto the pile. Sure, why not? Here’s what he had to say:

“We’re making four epic films that stand alone but together form a saga. These movies were designed to be seen in theaters first… I’ve been working with the top four screenwriters and designers in the world to design the world of Avatar going forward. The environments, new cultures, whatever it takes to life. From what I’m seeing the art on the wall… in pure imagination is just beyond the first film. I’m speechless.”

He went on to announce a new release date of Christmas 2018 for Avatar 2 followed by sequels in December of 2020, 2022 and 2023 respectively. The announcement was made at CinemaCon, where he also took the time to slam Screening Room and call for filmmakers to continue making the movie industry “the greatest show on earth.” The farther we get from the original Avatar, the more it feels like Cameron is setting himself up for a major fall, but let’s face it… clearly he’s just stacking the odds against himself so that when he succeeds (yet again) it will be even more spectacular. What do you think? Are you dying to see four more Avatar movies or is James Cameron severely overestimating the enthusiasm people have for this franchise?

The top four screenwriters and designers…really. Couldn’t you get them all James? Was there an Olympic event we didn’t hear about or did you just whip off this ranking on your iPad? How’s the view out your ass Jimmy?

…to be seen in the theater first? This sounds like, well like…… guy´s its no VOD trash! Hope he finish´s them before he get´s 80.

Remember James Cameron in the 80’s and early 90’s. He was “The” director to get excited about. Terminator, Aliens and the Abyss rocked the 80’s and Terminator 2 proved once again, after Aliens, that sequels could be better than the original film. Yes, aliens is better than Alien. Then came the best secret agent flick to not bear the 007 insignia… True Lies. I still rate the highway bridge sequence as the best action sequence ever made. Then… Yawn.. Titanic. Then 11 years later Avatar. Another technical marvel for it’s time but nothing uniquely original as his early fare. Now this is his life. :(

    Cinema is dead.

I wish the guy would just start releasing one of those bloody sequels instead of always just bumping their numbers up. Geez Louise.

I mean he is getting 80 years old. Sorry lads.

You are right, even if Titanic and Avatar made a lot of money, all of us should remember that Transformers : Rise of the fallen made 836 Million Dollar world wide And this was not a very good movie. . I will not mention “Battleship”, this sould have made 836 Million. Dollar instead of the lousy 300Million. So much for Money is a sign for Quality idea.

Titanic was awesome. I recomend the red letter media review of Titanic for a great explanation of how the movie is truly timeless and despite people (mostly men) pretending not to love titanic, it truly is a great movie.

These will be delayed at least 4 more times.

There is a very big difference between what Transformers does at the box office and what TITANIC and AVATAR did.

  • Can’t wait for 2030 when Avatar 2 finally comes out.

I guess you could say that he’s blue balling us with all these sequels. HAHAHAHAHA. I should copy-write this joke

Here’s how I could be interested at all:
He’s refused the billion+ dollars to make the four movies by absolutely everyone and becomes despondent. Then someone shows him LvT’s Dogville and he goes, “Eureka! That’s how we’ll do it!”

Oh dear, what if the next one does bomb and the others get cancelled. What a waste of a life. He should just hand over the concepts and storylines to eager young directors and do something else. .
