The Movie Review Show #27: Aug. 2nd, 1992 – Buffy the Vampire Slayer

As some of you may know, the earliest version of the Film Junk Podcast actually predated the internet and was recorded by Jay, Frank and I when we were just kids fooling around with an old boombox and some cassette tapes. Back then we called it The Movie Review Show, but most of those episodes have been lost to time except for a couple of old tapes recently discovered in my basement. But this week Reed actually found a tape sitting around his house that we had completely forgotten even existed. As with the other episodes, the sound quality isn’t the best but we are happy to be able to share with you another essential piece of Film Junk history. Enjoy!

0:00 – Intro

  • LongSlog

I can’t even explain how overjoyed I was to hear a youthful Reed on this, another wonderful episode of the Movie Review Show.

  • Look at that runtime…

  • Stinker

Do you plan to publish to the whole TMRS series on the medium of choice for this, either the to expensive CD´s (they will be recordable CD´s in the next few years) or on Chrome Tape? This would be really great.

  • eliantigiorgi

HE’S STILL OLD IN 92!!! LOL!!!

  • Adam C.

YESSSSS!!! I was hoping that you guys would do another one of these episodes for April 1st! Can’t wait to listen to it! Thanks!!!

  • devolutionary

Nope, nothing creepy at all about a grown up Reed hanging out with a bunch of kids.

  • ah

Wow! April 1st is my new favourite day of the year. I haven’t even listened to this yet but it’s made me so happy! You guys are the best!

  • Tum Tum Tyranus

  • schizopolis

Hey Sean, I’m ordering chronologically the Movie Review Shows on my playlist. When was the Buyer’s Guide episode?

  • Sean

Not sure if it’s ever explicitly stated, but I think it might have been Jan. 93.

  • Falsk

So glad to be blasting this from my car, sitting in rush hour traffic hahahaha

  • schizopolis

Thanks! Gonna listen to 5 straight hours of TMRS this weekend. Maybe, I’ll hook up my Nintendo NES.

  • Matthew MacGyver

This was so good. The multiple attempts to sweet-daddy-bear Reed, and his uncomfortable responses… perfect. You guys rule.

  • Demetri Kouvalis

I love how Frank sounds like he’s always on the verge of crying. Thank you guys!!!

  • LordAwesome

Anyone else feel a little uneasy listening to Frank’s burgeoning homosexuality display itself on air?

  • ReelJunkie

I fucking love you guys for doing this again!

  • Jonny Ashley

    god-tier podcasting.

  • Carlos Gonzalez

    I love this!
A further deepening of the FJ mythology.
I pray that these ‘tapes’ continue to surface.

  • ChrisJPN

Me too. As soon as Reed’s regular voice came on I laughed harder than I have for a long, long time. Amazing.

  • traynor

I love that Frank talked about breastfeeding just a few years ago. I REALLY need more details about this.

  • Brad Mull

Bravo guys, pissed my pants after that opening segment, job well done

  • Mrespony

“It’s summer time, been playing baseball…… video games”

  • Omar Hauksson

Bravo boys. That’s some god damn dedication.

  • Larry Morgan

I could listen to quarterly versions of these throughout the year

  • frankw35

I’m a little worried that now that this tape is out there Reed may wrongly end up targeted for an episode of To Catch a Predator.

  • no one important

I’m new to the podcast and, when listening to previous episodes, I thought these shows were real. It’s like Santa Claus all over again.

  • Mister Quigley Jr.

Ha! When Reed showed up I fuckin’ lost it. Top 5 Film Junk moment? We need a list.

  • GiveUsAprilFools

Man what an awesome surprise. The commitment and self-awareness in these episodes makes for such good comedy. I had to pause it when Reed first started talking, just 10/10 stuff.

  • TP222

I swear I was just thinking of the last one of these last week and to my suprise… YES!

  • Reed Farrington

There was an awkward moment when I was trying to describe playing tag in the dark as a kid, but I unfortunately used a poor choice of words as usual.

  • TP222

Maybe its just me, but I have a hard time telling the difference between Sean and Jay. Not all the time, but sometimes.

  • In Every Crack

These are so brilliant I’d actually consider paying for them. So fucking funny.

  • Simon

Hats off to Reed for playing along and being the old man in the room.
