This Week on DVD and Blu-ray: The Hateful Eight, Point Break, Concussion

dvdhatefuleight

The 8th film by Quentin Tarantino leads this week’s list of DVD and Blu-ray releases, although there are also a few worthwhile TV and Blu-ray releases that might be worth a poke. The Hateful Eight is probably the only must-have new release hitting stores, but if you’re feeling lucky you might want to take a chance on the Point Break remake, the Will Smith NFL drama Concussion or the Keanu Reeves VOD thriller Exposed. On the small screen we have the AMC sci-fi series Humans and the sixth season of Archer, meanwhile on Blu-ray we have Criterion re-issues of Bicycle Thieves and The Hidden Fortress, Michael Cimino’s The Sicilian and the Roger Corman-produced ’70s exploitation film Big Bad Mama. What will you be picking up this week? Check out the full list of new releases after the jump.

Best Buy has Hateful Eight with that sweet steelbook, but Target has “exclusive bonus content” and a collectible lenticular packaging. What version is proper one to purchase? These are the questions that can haunt one forever.

I like it when Frank talks about watching movies hundreds of times when he was a kid. I remember renting videos, watching them over and over before returning them to the video store. But those were different times. The thought of having a decent collection at home to source entertainment from was pure fantasy for a kid with very little money. We had to rent and make the most of it.

Present day.. I source my stuff second hand.. $1 to $5 DVDS. It’s the thrifty way to shop. Its cheaper to buy a second hand Dvd now then it was to rent. Now to my point. Having such a massive choice of movies for very little cost I just don’t get why anyone would feel the need to buy recent released films. Even worse, movies that you have seen at the cinema. I totally get the rewatch perspective but you got a heck of a lot of movies to tide you over until that premium price movie hits the bargain bin.

Is anyone else like me, or do you all just crave the newest and shiniest? The older movies… Give em a go. It’ll save you a bundle and the truth is… The movies are way better. Cinema peaked in the 90’s. It’s been downhill ever since.
