Batman v Superman Ultimate Cut Coming in July, New Deleted Scene Released

Last month Zack Snyder revealed that an R-rated cut of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was being planned for DVD and Blu-ray and would likely add another 30 minutes to the movie’s 2.5 hour run time. While this does tend to happen from time to time (Snyder released a 3+ hour Director’s Cut of Watchmen, for example), the surprising thing here is the fact that they have already set a release date for the Ultimate Cut and they seem to be promoting it just days after Batman v Superman hit theatres. It is possible that Snyder and Warner Brothers are hoping to address complaints about the film’s plot by letting fans know that the additional scenes will answer some of their questions. On the other hand, they’ve already released a short deleted scene online that only seems to add to the confusion. Hit the jump for more details.

According to Forbes, the Batman v Superman: Ultimate Cut is already slated to hit DVD and Blu-ray on July 16th. This will include the aforementioned R-rated cut of the movie, and although there are no specifics on what to expect, it will apparently feature “additional footage of violence and carnage, and maybe even some brief nudity.” Zack Snyder also told Collider that the new version would restore some shots that were cut from action sequences to hit a PG-13 rating and also a longer ending and a very different North Africa sequence at the beginning.

As for the new deleted scene that is already available online, it is apparently related to Lex Luthor and some of the cryptic things he says near the end of the movie, although for non-comic book fans it will probably seem nonsensical. I won’t go into anymore detail since it obviously could be considered a spoiler for anyone who hasn’t seen the movie, but feel free to discuss the meaning of this video in the comments below. Are you looking forward to the Ultimate Cut of Batman v Superman? Do you think it will be an improvement on the theatrical version?

    Awesome scene.

God damn this movie was fucking garbage. A director’s cut isn’t going to change that. I’d honestly be willing to bet that the movie we got in theatres was what Zack Snyder wanted, what him and the studio agreed on with no push back from Snyder at all – it follows his typical style of shitty broken up non-cohessive filmmaking we’ve seen in Watchmen, Man of Steel, and Sucker Punch – and that the “director’s cut” we’re getting is really nothing more than an “extended cut.” But now that the movie is getting shitty reviews and everyone is hating on it they all of the sudden have to fucking be all “Oh no, don’t worry, ANOTHER version of the film is coming and it’s TOTALLY GOING TO BE R RATED” because, apparently we’re all 17 year olds that think a couple of f-bombs and a bit more blood is what will make a shitty film better.

In under 4 Month a longer better version, and this after its first weekend? This will stop a lot of people to spent x bucks, if you just have to spent x bucks to get the same movie, R-Rated, longer, better. Will do the 2nd weekend drop off not a big favour.

Doubt that 30 Min more will improve the movie, maybe a “fan” edit could save it.

Anyone notice that Jimmy Olsen was in this? I missed it but heard after, and there is an actor listed on imdb as playing Jimmy Olsen. I guess Jenny from the first Man of Steel is just ‘Jenny’ and not ‘Jenny Olsen’ as originally thought…strange.

Thanks Sean, interesting read, although it mainly re-affirms my belief that Snyder should not be in charge of this DC cinematic universe.

Well, who cares… they took some random character and called it Jimmy Olsen (and you will only know it of you buy the extended 12 hour cut!). If any fans are upset about this it’s a little sad. Snyder turned Superman into a brooding bore. The casual disregard for Jimmy Olsen’s name/character is the least of the movie’s problems.

It’s amazing that a movie can’t tell its story properly in 2.5 hours of running time. This is not Lord of the Rings. It’s a comic book movie. Epic fail, Hollywood. Screenwriting 101 is brevity, brevity, brevity. Now they’re enticing people to buy the Blu-Ray to get the real and complete film. So what did I just watch? A work in progress?
