Peter Serafinowicz to Play The Tick in New Live Action Series

Earlier this month we learned that the Big Blue Bug of Justice was heading back to TV courtesy of Amazon with Ben Edlund returning to write and produce and Wally Pfister (Transcendence) in talks to direct the pilot episode. At the time, there were a couple of casting announcements as well with Griffin Newman (Vinyl) on board to play The Tick’s sidekick Arthur and Valorie Curry (House of Lies, The Following) playing Arthur’s sister Dot. The biggest remaining question, however, was who could possibly fill Patrick Warburton’s shoes in the lead role as the titular, nigh invulnerable superhero. Now this week we finally have an answer: The Tick will be played by British actor and comedian Peter Serafinowicz. Hit the jump for more details.
According to Deadline, Peter Serafinowicz is set to star in the pilot for Amazon’s upcoming reboot of The Tick. Serafinowicz is probably best known for his roles in Shaun of the Dead and the British comedy series Look Around You. More recently, he also appeared in Paul Feig’s Spy and he played Nova Corps member Denarian Saal in Guardians of the Galaxy.
It’s an intriguing choice, although it does raise several other questions, such as… will The Tick have a British accent this time around? I’m assuming not. Serafinowicz does have an appropriately booming voice (he provided the voice for Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I) and the physical presence as well (he’s 6’3″). Plus, he seems like he could be a great asset to the show creatively, moving forward. So all in all, I am optimistic, if not completely sold just yet. What do you think, is Peter Serafinowicz an inspired choice to play The Tick?
