Deepwater Horizon Trailer Starring Mark Wahlberg

After appearing in three comedies last year with Ted 2, Daddy’s Home and Entourage, Mark Wahlberg is getting back to serious business with Deepwater Horizon, a dramatic action-thriller based on the 2010 oil spill disaster. J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year) was originally attached to direct but ended up being replaced by Peter Berg, who previously teamed with Mark Wahlberg on Lone Survivor. The trailer is a bit odd in that it is framed by his daughter practicing a school presentation on how an oil rig works, but it seems to indicate that they will focus on the courage and heroism of the workers as opposed to the controversy surrounding the cause and BP’s response. Either way, it feels like this is being positioned as a potential awards movie, although something tells me it will end up getting lost in the shuffle like last year’s Everest. Deepwater Horizon co-stars Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson, John Malkovich, Gina Rodriguez and Dylan O’Brien and it hits theatres on Sept. 30th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

  • Stinker

Peter Berg has a solid record, so this could be good.

  • Quiet Wyatt

    Because subtlety is overrated.
