Last month we learned that two separate groups were supposedly in the process of reviving the ’80s TV show MacGyver for two different mediums. CBS was setting up a new TV series while Lionsgate was developing a feature film and original series creator Lee David Zlotoff was apparently producing both. Now this week it appears that the former will probably be the first out of the gate as CBS has chosen a lead actor for their upcoming TV series after an extensive casting search. Unlike Richard Dean Anderson, who was 35 when the original show first debuted, the new MacGyver will be a little bit younger. Hit the jump for the full scoop.

According to THR, Lucas Till will star in the upcoming CBS reboot of the ’80s TV series MacGyver. Till is best known for playing Havok in the last few X-Men movies but he has also had roles in Stoker, Paranoia and the upcoming The Disappointments Room. Joshua Boone (Fan Girl) has also signed on to play Gunner, MacGyver’s best friend from high school.

The new series will focus on a twenty-something Angus MacGyver who gets recruited by a clandestine organization for his unique problem solving skills. The pilot was written by Paul Downs Colaizzo (LFE) and will be directed by David Von Ancken (Seraphim Falls, Californication). James Wan, who was originally attached to direct, will executive produce. No word on what this might mean for the MacGyver feature film, but it’s possible they are connected since Lionsgate and CBS Films have a distribution partnership.
