The Tick Reboot Gets Pilot Order at Amazon

A year and a half after the initial rumours first popped up online, it looks like we are finally about to see The Tick return to the small screen. Created in the late ’80s by Ben Edlund, The Tick is a big blue nigh-invincible superhero who protects The City with his sidekick Arthur, a former accountant who wears a moth suit. It started as a comic book and eventually spawned an animated series, and in 2001 it became a live-action TV series that lasted just nine episodes on Fox. Now Amazon is setting up a new version of the show with a different cast, although Patrick Warburton will still be involved as executive producer. Hit the jump to find out what we know.
According to Deadline, Amazon has ordered a pilot for a new version of The Tick with Ben Edlund once again returning as writer and executive producer. Griffin Newman (Vinyl) will play Arthur and Valorie Curry (House of Lies, The Following) will play his sister Dot but they are still in search of an actor to play The Tick. Wally Pfister (Transcendence) is in negotiations to direct.
Obviously superheroes are more popular now than they’ve ever been, so it’s easy to see why it might be a good time to resurrect The Tick. The original show was arguably ahead of its time, but perhaps now people will be more ready to embrace it. Still, I’m not entirely convinced that anyone can play The Tick other than Patrick Warburton. I’m hoping they prove me wrong. Are you looking forward to a new version of The Tick?
