Tom Tykwer has spent the last few years of his career collaborating with The Wachowskis as he co-wrote and co-directed Cloud Atlas and helmed a couple episodes of their Netflix series Sense8 as well. Next month, however, he will strike out on his own again with A Hologram for the King, a movie based on the novel by Dave Eggers. Tom Hanks stars as a washed up businessman from Boston who travels to Saudi Arabia in an attempt to secure an IT contract with the king. Along with movies like Rock the Kasbah and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, this seems to be another dramedy about a middle-aged American travelling to the Middle East in order to have a life-changing experience. The trailer didn’t do much for me but the talent involved still gives me hope that it could be good.
