Monday Morning Box Office Report: Deadpool Still Smoking

boxofficedeadpool3

It was another victory for Deadpool over the weekend as the well-received comic book movie has now become the third highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. 20th Century Fox added another $31 million to the movie’s domestic total (which is now sitting at $285 million), doubling up on the next closest competitor which was Alex Proyas’ Gods of Egypt. Gods of Egypt is being called the first major flop of 2016, although it ultimately ended up falling in line with the already dismal projections. Kung Fu Panda 3 fell to third place while Risen and Eddie the Eagle rounded out the top 5. The other disappointment of the weekend was John Hillcoat’s Triple 9, which could only manage $6 million despite its star-studded cast. It may also have trouble making back its $20 million budget when all is said and done.

1. Deadpool — $31.5M
2. Gods of Egypt — $14.0M
3. Kung Fu Panda 3 — $9.0M
4. Risen — $7.0M

7. How to Be Single — $5.2M
