Monday Morning Box Office Report: Kung Fu Panda 3 Still King, The Force Awakens Hits $2 Billion Worldwide

It was a relatively slow weekend at the box office with the Super Bowl being the easy excuse for why most of the new releases were non-starters. Kung Fu Panda 3 took the top spot for the second weekend in a row with $21 million while The Coen Brothers’ Hail Caesar! managed second place with a mediocre $11.4 million. That’s the lowest debut ever for a Coen Brothers film opening on more than 1500 screens, although that only accounts for five of their movies. Meanwhile The Revenant and Star Wars: The Force Awakens fell to #3 and #4 respectively with the latter finally crossing the $2 billion mark worldwide. Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Choice rounded out the top 5 followed by Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which limped into sixth place with a disappointing $5.2 million. With three big releases coming out next weekend, it seems unlikely that it will make back its reported $28 million budget.
1. Kung Fu Panda 3 — $21M
2. Hail, Caesar! — $11.44M
