If David Robert Mitchell’s inventive horror film It Follows was last year’s breakout indie horror hit, it feels like Robert Eggers’ The Witch is poised to become the 2016 equivalent. Both movies built up strong buzz ahead of time on the festival circuit (strangely, they both played Sundance in 2015) and, in this case, A24’s marketing has also been pretty good, selling it on mystery and atmosphere while staying away from anything too plot-specific. This week we’ve got a new trailer for the film that lets the period setting and slightly unsettling imagery quietly tell you everything you need to know.
