It’s been ten years now since Paul Verhoeven’s last major film, Black Book, hit theatres and although he has hinted over the past decade at a possible return to the director’s chair (see: The Surrogate, The Hidden Force and Jesus of Nazareth), it would seem that it is difficult for him to secure funding nowadays. Go figure. At any rate, Verhoeven decided to head to France where he made his latest film Elle. This is a home invasion / revenge thriller starring Isabelle Huppert as the head of a video game company who is assaulted in her home and then proceeds to turn around and stalk her assailant. Yep, that sure sounds like a Paul Verhoeven film. Elle hits theatres in France on Sept. 21st but there is no word on a U.S. release as of yet.
