It’s been a few years since Jodie Foster’s last outing as a director, the divisive dramedy The Beaver starring Mel Gibson, but this year she is back behind the camera with her first thriller. Money Monster revolves around a disgruntled investor (Jack O’Connell) who takes the host of a financial TV show (George Clooney) hostage live on the air. The action supposedly plays out in something close to real time which is usually an effective gimmick, but the tone of the trailer seems oddly sentimental. The script was written by Alan DiFiore (Grimm), Jim Kouf (Grimm, Rush Hour, National Treasure) and Jamie Linden (We Are Marshall, Dear John) and the supporting cast includes Julia Roberts, Caitriona Balfe, Dominic West and Giancarlo Esposito.
