Michael Bay Confirmed for Transformers 5

With Michael Bay’s latest film, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, about to hit theatres, there has been some discussion about what he might do next and whether this could potentially take his career in a slightly different direction. However, if you are worried that Bay might get hung up on making movies exclusively about real-life military conflicts, it now appears that will not be the case. For the past decade the Transformers franchise has been his bread and butter, and although the last two films were billed as his final entry, somehow he just can’t resist coming back for more. Now this week he has confirmed the rumours that cropped up a few months ago… for better or worse, he will indeed direct Transformers 5. Here’s what he had to say:
“I’m doing Transformers … 5, is it? I still have a great time. It’s fun to do a movie that 100 million people will see. But this is the last one. I have to pass the reins to someone else… J.J. [Abrams] told me, ‘You’re the only guy that could do this.’ But it’s time to move on. One more.”
Mark Wahlberg also recently confirmed that he would return for the next Transformers film, which is being written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man) along with Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down). While I’m sure the acknowledgement of Michael Bay’s return may disappoint some people who were hoping to get a fresh new take on the series, the good news is that we already know there will be several other Transformers spin-offs handled by other filmmakers. Are you interested in seeing one more Transformers movie from Michael Bay? Do you think this will really be his last one?
