Although stop motion films generally only make a fraction of what many of the big CG animated movies make these days, LAIKA seems to have carved out a nice little niche doing stop motion projects that still manage to eke out a profit. Their films, which include Coraline, ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls, tend to be critical favourites as well, which doesn’t hurt. Their latest film is called Kubo and the Two Strings and it looks to be a stylized samurai fantasy adventure set in ancient Japan. With a voice cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Charlize Theron, Rooney Mara, Ralph Fiennes and George Takei, this marks the directorial debut of Travis Knight (son of Nike founder Phil Knight… who owns the company). Kubo and the Two Strings hits theatres on Aug. 19th; check out the teaser trailer after the jump and see what you think.
