Steven Spielberg’s The BFG Trailer

Although Disney has acted as distributor for Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks Pictures since 2009 (a deal that will end next year), and although Spielberg’s name has been synonymous with family entertainment since the ’80s, Spielberg has somehow never released a movie under the Disney name. That will change next year with the final DreamWorks film to be released through Disney, an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG. The movie stars newcomer Ruby Barnhill as Sophie, a young girl who encounters a Big Friendly Giant (voiced by Bridge of Spies star Mark Rylance), an outcast among his people who refuses to eat boys and girls. With a screenplay by Melissa Mathison (E.T.), it looks like the kind of magical family adventure that has been sorely missing over the past decade or two. The BFG co-stars Rebecca Hall, Bill Hader and Jemaine Clement and hits theatres on July 1st; check out the first trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.
