Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny Trailer

If you were trying to keep an open mind about the possibility of a sequel to Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, the first trailer for the film might convince you otherwise. Originally titled Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend, it has apparently since been changed to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny and it finds Michelle Yeoh reprising her role as Yu Shu Lien with Donnie Yen joining as a character named Silent Wolf. The story is based on the fifth book in the Crane-Iron Pentalogy (the first movie is based on book 4), but the trailer features plenty of CG and a pretty brutal cover of CCR’s “Bad Moon Rising”, which is sure to set off alarm bells for fans of the original. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny is directed by Yuen Wo-Ping (Drunken Master, Iron Monkey) and debuts on Netflix and in IMAX theatres on Feb. 26th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

If you want to see a good, distinctive martial arts movie, keep an eye out for “SPL 2: A Time for Consequences” with Tony Jaa and Wu Jing. It should get an American release next year. I doubt “Crouching Tiger 2″ or “Ip Man 3″ will be nearly as good.
