  • Colin

Oh, wow… looks like I got another email on the show! Thanks guys

  • Colin

Also I’m extremely down for a FJ Battlefront night

  • Taylor Gaston Wyatt

Film Junkers! “Heir Taylor” on Xbox live. I’m sweating.

  • Sam

On the Jay vs. Frank VOD Trash/Budget discussion. I think the issue that comes to mind for me with Frank is moreso that the budget always seems to comes up when talking about any low budget movie as a point of discussion. I listen to a lot of other podcasts and way more than any other person does Frank bring up the budget (usually to criticize something) when discussing the same films.

Then again, maybe Frank is doing something right since Film Junk remains my favorite podcast among all of them.

Also, I kept noting that all these “high ratings” for VOD movies he kept citing as examples seemed to top out at around 3.5/5. That’s not a high rating for Frank. He seems reluctant to overly praise a VOD movie. And I think this also can apply to his view on classic movies as well.

  • Sean

    Yep, he will be there.

  • Sean

I think you bring up some good points. But let’s be honest, do any of us actually want Frank to change? I know I don’t.

  • Frankie Knuckles

I do agree with your point, and if I was going to argue against myself, that would be the appropriate way to comment on my (perceived) bias against VOD films.

It’s true that I very rarely give HIGH praise to VOD films. (Perhaps for some of the reasons discussed on this episode )

Another way to account for this trend could be that I’m not watching these movies in a theater. I definitely find watching movies in the theater enhances the experience. For example, I wonder if I would have had the same enthusiastic reaction for Sicario if I watched it at home for the first time.

This is an unfortunate circumstance propagated by the landscape of the film industry and by me living in a small town.

Ultimately, I love VOD for the convenience, but mostly I wish that it wasn’t necessary, or at the very least, that I could see the films we review in a theater (except for TRASH like the V/H/S series of course)

  • Taylor Gaston Wyatt

    Awesome.

  • yonato

    Oh yeah…

  • Sam

I love Frank. Definitely hope he never changes too much, just maybe broaden his horizons the tiniest of bits.

  • Sam

I definitely understand the movie theater preference over home. I guess I’ve acclimated myself more to home watching as I don’t get to go to the theater as much as I’d like to having three young kids, though I still manage my share of trips just not as much as I’d like to.

Finding the time to go see stuff like Room, Spotlight, Carol, Brooklyn, etc… right now seems impossible for me, though I’ll definitely find some time for Carol soon.

  • Andrew Dixon

If Frank broadens his horizons, he won’t be as interesting. Don’t change Frankie.

  • devolutionary

He could start by revisiting “non-mainstream”, Criterion-bait films like The Graduate.

  • Tim

    Agreed.
Narrow-minded, clueless Frankie is very much appreciated.

  • Arthur Christmas is fucking awesome.

  • Sean

I will have to make an effort to watch it before Christmas this year.

  • Tommy

To fill out the QT premie you should include his ER and CSI episodes.

  • pineapplepuss

    awesome job, guys! Can’t wait!

  • Mister Quigley Jr.

Frank digging Wild At Heart warms my heart. Great podcast, laughed my ass off. Happy Black Friday and Cyber Monday, boys!

  • Garth Watson

This video is definitive proof that Jay wins the bet on the proper pronunciation of Krampus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUIa24OR0r4

  • Jaxson

Why not do Tarantino’s full filmography for the premium? He’s only got like 6 movies.

  • Jago

In Christoph we trust. Masterful Krampus pronunciation at about 1:50 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbkGuCozc9M

  • Maik

yup. a Cheel Fail on that one!

  • Sean

He has 8 movies and some are pretty long, plus we’ve talked about a few of them fairly recently. But we’ve also been debating trying to include some of the peripheral films like True Romance, Natural Born Killers, From Dusk Till Dawn and Four Rooms.

  • Len F.

For the quiz; “Where does Clark end up while sledding?” Did Jay answer Jamaica? I sure hope so.

  • Rob

Man someone needs to calculate a “dollar per star” value for the FilmJunk crew. I’d be curious to know who’s star rating is most affected by the budget of the film…

  • Jaxson

Good point :) . True Romance and/or NBK would be good.

  • Gerard Robinson

You may be done with the remake/reboot discussion but for what it’s worth I would say the fundamental notion is that the term reboot applies to any attempt to re-start a potential franchise, the intention being to make multiple movies whereas a remake would be a single, standalone film. Christopher Nolan’s Insomnia is a remake. Marc Webb’s Amazing Spiderman is a reboot.

  • Jasper

Krampus is a German word which is pronounced crum puss. Cram piss is the american english way of pronouncing it. The question is what the bet was on: what the correct pronounciation is or how the characters in the movie pronounce it. The latter would obviously serve Jay since it is an english language film.
