Riddick Sequel Confirmed, TV Series Also in the Works

Back in 2006, Vin Diesel agreed to cameo in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift in exchange for the rights to the Riddick franchise, a series that Universal was not interested in continuing after The Chronicles of Riddick bombed in theatres. It proved to be a savvy move, as the next Riddick movie made almost as much as The Chronicles of Riddick but on a much smaller budget and then went on to do even better on DVD and Blu-ray. Shortly after the DVD release, Diesel hinted that there was a strong possibility of a Riddick sequel. Now, almost two years later, he has confirmed that not only will there be another film, but also a TV spin-off as well. Here’s what he had to say via Instagram:

DT is obviously David Twohy, who directed all of the previous films in the series. Vin Diesel has mentioned in the past that the next movie would likely revolve around Riddick returning to his home world, so it seems safe to assume that this is what Furia will be. As for Merc City, the question here is whether anyone is interested in exploring more of the Riddick universe without following Riddick himself. Would you watch a Riddick TV show without Vin Diesel as the star?
