Justice League Dark Casting Rumours and Director Shortlist Revealed

Back in 2012, we started hearing some intriguing rumours about a supernatural-flavoured superhero movie in development at Warner Brothers with Guillermo del Toro potentially on board to write and direct. The movie would be based on Justice League Dark, a DC comic book series that brought together such characters as John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Swamp Thing and Zatanna. Del Toro ended up writing the script and the studio supposedly liked it, but the production start conflicted with Pacific Rim 2 so he was eventually forced to drop out. Since then the project has remained in development and suddenly this week we’re getting a rash of reports about possible casting choices and directors. Hit the jump to get the latest scoop on this potentially unique entry to the DC Universe.

Earlier this week, both Latino Review and Heroic Hollywood reported on a handful of potential actors being considered for roles in Justice League Dark. Although it is unclear if any of these actors have actually entered into discussions, here is the list of candidates as it currently stands:

  • Swamp Thing — Ron Perlman
  • John Constantine — Colin Farrell or Ewan McGregor
  • Madame Xanadu — Monica Bellucci
  • Anton Arcane — Ben Mendelsohn

There is also talk of a potential cameo from Suicide Squad‘s Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. As for directors, JoBlo is reporting that the studio is currently looking at Aharon Keshales & Navot Papushado (Big Bad Wolves) as well as Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead). The movie is also apparently expected to use the title Dark Universe as opposed to Justice League Dark, which would probably avoid confusion with the main Justice League movie. Are you looking forward to this project? Who would you like to see direct?
