Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq Trailer

Although Spike Lee is coming off a disappointing remake of Oldboy and a handful of smaller films that have mostly flown under the radar, his upcoming film Chi-Raq seems like it is poised to attract a little bit more attention. Not only is this Amazon’s first foray into producing original films, but the movie is also tackling the hot button issue of gang violence in Chicago. That being said, the first trailer looks to be both surreal and comedic, depicting a fictional movement where women threaten to withhold sex until the cycle of violence ends. With a cast that includes Teyonah Parris, Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, Samuel L. Jackson and John Cusack, the movie is also supposedly a loose adaptation of the ancient Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes. Chi-Raq arrives in select theatres and on Amazon Instant Video on Dec. 4; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
