This Week on DVD and Blu-ray: Pixels, The Gift, Mulholland Drive: Criterion Collection

dvdmulhollanddrive

We’ve got a handful of smaller summer movies hitting DVD and Blu-ray this week plus tons of back catalogue stuff, including a few things that might make for ideal Halloween viewing. Adam Sandler’s Pixels is the highest profile new release although it flopped in theatres, while Joel Edgerton’s The Gift starring Jason Bateman and Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw starring Jake Gyllenhaal were slightly more successful (relatively speaking). Gore hounds may also want to brave the final installment in Tom Six’s The Human Centipede trilogy. On Blu-ray, we’ve got yet another new edition of Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness, the long-awaited Criterion release of David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive and the 40th Anniversary Edition of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, plus the Warner Brothers Special Effects Collection and two killer ant movies: Them! and Saul Bass’s Phase IV. What will you be picking up this week? Check out the full list of new releases after the jump.

Thanks for the info Sean! I’m sure to pick up the sweet Criterion release of David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive. I sure love um Laura Harring’s sizable assets in the film. The diner scene still haunts me to this day.

It never ceases to infuriate me when I click through to Amazon.com and see all this shit selling for like 10-12 bones when it’s often 3 times that on Amazon.ca. Breeders and Phase IV are both 40 dollars on .ca compared to 12 on .com. Fucking retarded.

Yeah it sucks… it’s because they aren’t actually available in Canada so they are technically imports.

Don’t buy Mulholland Dr., it, like a lot of recent Criterion releases is a compression disaster. http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleiche/multi_comparison.php?disc1=6656&disc2=5436&hd_multiID=2218#auswahl

Criterion no longer deserve their reputation as a grade A company. Say no to this garbage they are releasing.
