Anthologies have been making a comeback on both the big screen and small screen over the last little while, although in the TV world the term has been taking on a slightly different meaning. While shows like The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits used to be all about self-contained single episode stories, recent shows like True Detective and Fargo are popularizing the idea of self-contained seasons. With this in mind, it will be interesting to see what format the upcoming reboot of Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories will follow. The show reportedly being resurrected on NBC and the creator of Hannibal is making it happen. Hit the jump for more details.

According to Deadline, a new version of the Steven Spielberg-produced anthology series Amazing Stories is in development at Universal TV and Amblin Entertainment. Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) is set to write and executive produce, although he is also currently working on the Starz adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. Spielberg is not currently involved but could decide to executive produce after seeing the pilot episode.

The original series ran from 1985 to 1987 and featured various one-off stories that spanned the horror, fantasy and sci-fi genres. The show ran only two seasons due to poor ratings but it featured episodes helmed by many well-known directors including Robert Zemeckis, Joe Dante, Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Tobe Hooper, Bob Clark, and of course, Steven Spielberg himself. It will be interesting to see who will be involved behind the camera this time around. Are you interested in a new version of Amazing Stories?

I loved, LOVED Amazing Stories when I was a kid. I was the perfect age for that show, being 11 in ’85. I also love most of what Brian Fuller has done on TV (Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, season one of Heroes, never watched Hannibal), so yeah, I’ll definitely check this out.
