George Clooney to Direct The Coen Brothers’ Suburbicon
![]()
It has been a few years since George Clooney teamed up with The Coen Brothers, but the good news is that they have a couple of new collaborations to look forward to in the near future. Clooney will appear in Hail, Caesar! early next year, although he is just one part of a large ensemble cast, and now we are hearing that he is also looking to direct a screenplay that The Coens wrote once upon a time. The movie is called Suburbicon and it is something that The Cloon has been trying to get off the ground for the better part of the last decade. If all goes according to plan, it will end up being his next project behind the camera. Hit the jump to find out what we know.
According to Deadline, Suburbicon is currently being set up at Sony’s TriStar Pictures with Joel Silver acting as producer. George Clooney would direct and also potentially star in the film, which is described as “a noir drama in the vein of the Coens’ breakout film Blood Simple.” Plot details are being kept under wraps but it is said to be set in the 1950s (not unlike Hail, Caesar!).
George Clooney’s last directorial effort was the middling war dramedy The Monuments Men and before that it was the political drama The Ides of March. He is also developing a film about the Rupert Murdoch phone hacking scandal called Hack Attack. Are you a fan of George Clooney’s work as a director and are you looking forward to Suburbicon?
